  Trekking In Nepal

Suggestion for the Trekkers

•  One Week Trek

If you have allowed yourself only one week in Nepal , you won't have time to do any serious Trekking, especially if you also want to do some hikes for a 3-4 days trek to Ghorepani or Ghanddruk from Pokhara, & do a short walk on the Kathmandu valley.

•  Two Weeks Trek

Annapurna Base Camp, Langtang valley, Muktinath-Jomsom, Lamjung Himal and Everest- Sherpa villages and monasteries can be trekked in 2 weeks.

•  Three Weeks Trek

Upper-Mustang, Annapurna circuit, Everest Base Camp, Lantang-Gosinkunda, & Arun valley treks can be done in 3 weeks.

•  One Months Trek

With a month, you have enough time to visit the Base Camp of Kanchanjunga, Manaslu Massif, Makalu trek & Upper Dolpo region.

When to Trek?

Spring season (February-March-April): The second finest trekking season. The temperature is quite moderate; especially the rhododendrons are in complete blossom and the mountain views are excellent.

Summer season (June-July-August): This is the most preferable season to trek in the rain shadow areas like Mustang, Upper Manang and Dolpo. These places are out of reach of the rain clouds because of the huge mountains and are unaffected by the monsoon. This season is also recommended for forest researchers and botanist. Warning-raincoats and insect repellents are strictly necessary in this period.

Autumn season (September to November): The best season offering excellent weather and out standing mountain views.

Winter season (December & January): Suitable season for trekking at lower altitude, generally below 3000m.

Kind of Treks

There are numerous ways to structure a trek because of two major Factors. Firstly you can almost always find supplies and accommodation locally because there are people living in even the most remote trekking areas. Secondly there is inexpensive professional and non professional labour available to carry loads & to works as guides & camp staff.

There are 2 main approaches to Trekking:

Lodge Treks

The most popular way to trek is to use local trekking lodges for accommodation, meals & usually an English Menu and English-speaking proprietor. Annapurna , Everest and langtang regions have good lodges.

Camping Treks

The classic style of trek in Nepal is to camp in tents and employ porters to carry your gear & Sharpas to set up camp, cook and serve meals. You carry a backpack with a water bottle, camera and jacket. On camping trek you sleep in a tent.

Organized Treks

An organized trek can be either a lodge trek or a camping trek. This trek is under the control of a Sirdar (guide), who is responsible for arranging accommodation, whether it is a lodge or camping trek area. Trekking food, Trekking crews (Cook man, Kitchen staff, Sherpaman, Porters) & if requested the musical team will be provided in camping organized trek. The group size may be as large as 12 or as small as one.
